Corona Damage

Corona discharge is a luminous partial discharge from conductors and insulators due to ionization of the air, where the electrical field exceeds a critical value.

• Generation of corrosive materials, like ozone and nitrogen oxides that yields nitric acid under conditions of high humidity. These corrosive materials shorten the life span of high voltage lines and substations components.
• Corona causes damage to HV insulators, especially non-ceramic ( NCI) insulators.
• Radio interference (RI/ RFI) mainly to AM transmissions.
• Audio noise. Radio interference and audio noise may raise customer complaints.

UV Technology

Processes involved with corona phenomena emit ultra violet (UV) light. While the conventional UV sensors and filters are blinded by normal daylight and cannot provide the required levels of sunlight blocking, Ofil's solar blind filters, based on the company's intellectual property (IP), enable absolute detection of weak UV signals in full daylight with high signal-to-background ratio and only negligible background noise.

Ofil's cameras overlay the images from their visible light and UV sensors to produce live video images that allow the presence and location of corona to be easily seen.  The severity of corona can be quantified and trended with time with the unique Corona Rate Counting algorithm.

UVollé Family

UVollé is a family of compact lightweight daylight corona camera, specially designed to be handy and ready for daily use.  UVollé's dimensions, features, and pricing make it an ideal basic tool for every predictive maintenance assignment and in every electrical maintenance toolbox. The inspected scene is displayed on a color LCD while the findings are captured and stored on a removable memory card.

The UVollé-Vi records both video and photographs while the UVollé-S records photographs only.
