Introduction

Using their eyes, human beings can gather information more quickly and with more flexibility than with any other senses. This is why complex processes are "visualized", and great technical effort is made to extend vision to fields that the eyes usually cannot see. The acoustic camera offers a visual solution to sound issues. Now a portable system can generate maps of sound sources that look similar to thermo graphic images in minutes. The old proverb is true in a slightly modified form: One image says more than a thousand numbers. There is a vast range of applications, from noise reduction and sound analysis to quality assurance (QA).

System

The Acoustic Camera imaging system is comprised of three major components: (1) an acoustic array on which the microphones and camera are mounted, (2) a data recorder, and (3) a PC with Sound Image Software to record and produce the acoustic photos, movies, and 3-D CAD images. A wide range of arrays are available to fit plant, laboratory, interior cabin, and environmental situations. Additionally, Acoustic Camera will develop custom array solutions for your measurement needs.

The Acoustic Camera has been successfully deployed in numerous applications including: vehicle aero acoustic reduction in wind tunnels, vehicle pass-by, industrial environmental, automobile interior, airplane interior, powertrain radiated noise, vehicle exterior, component noise identification, automotive assembly plant QA, and consumer product sound reduction programs.
